How a child plays, learns, speaks, moves, and behaves all offer important clues about their development. A delay in any of these developmental milestones could be a sign of developmental challenges, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Identifying any delays early in a child's life and getting help for those delays is vital to positive outcomes.

The Early Childhood Services Team (ECST) at C.I.D.S. works with parents and their children to screen and identify any developmental issues and then counsels parents on the appropriate services for their child and makes referrals as needed, with parental agreement. This is a FREE service for all children in Chemung County! Contact ECST for more information and to set up your appointment today!

We use a variety of certified testing methods in order to get a complete picture of your child's well-being. Currently CIDS uses the Brigance Early Childhood Screen III for development and the Arizona Articulation Scale 4 for speech. CIDS recommends that children begin screening at ten (10) months of age and get periodic screens until they are five (5) years old. However, parents are invited to schedule a screen any time they are concerned about their child’s development.
